A Record-Breaking Discovery
The Guinness World Records officially recognized the bottle as the oldest message in a bottle ever recovered.
At the time of discovery, it had been drifting for 85 years and 8 months — the previous record holder was the 2006 bottle found by Andrew’s friend.
Both bottles were part of the same experiment by scientist Captain C.H. Brown of the Fishery Board.
The recovered message card was still perfectly legible, protected by thick glass and a tightly sealed stopper — a simple design that outlasted nearly a century at sea.
